Dáil Éireann - Volume 541 - 09 October, 2001 Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes. Mr. McCormack Mr. McCormack 335. Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the provision of a sewerage scheme for the village of Leenane, County Galway. [22884/01] Mr. Dempsey Mr. Dempsey 1233 [1233] Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): This scheme has been approved for funding under the rural towns and villages initiative. I approved the updated preliminary report for the scheme last November and the submission of contract documents by Galway County Council is now awaited. Mr. McCormack Mr. McCormack 336. Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the provision of a sewerage scheme for Carraroe, County Galway. [22885/01] Mr. Dempsey Mr. Dempsey Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): Carraroe sewerage scheme was included as a longer-term objective – 2007-2018 – in the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Galway County Council in 1999 in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme, 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it has not been possible to include it in the programme. In a revised priority list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by the council last January, the Carraroe scheme was placed fifth on the list of sewerage schemes for the period 2002-06. The revised list will be taken into account in the context of the next phase of the water services investment programme. Mr. McCormack Mr. McCormack 337. Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the provision of a sewerage scheme for Clifden, County Galway. [22886/01] Mr. Dempsey Mr. Dempsey 1234 [1234] Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): This scheme is included in my Department's water services investment programme 2000-2002 to start construction in 2002. An updated preliminary report for the scheme has been submitted by Galway County Council and is under examination in my Department. Dáil Éireann 541 Written Answers. Water and Sewerage Schemes.
