Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of primary schools which were due to lose a teacher in September 2001 due to a reduction in pupil numbers and [1106] which have been approved for the retention of that teacher outside of the staffing schedule; and the names of these schools. Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): There are 25 primary schools which were due to lose a teacher for the 2001-02 school year due to a reduction in pupil numbers based on the historical level of enrolment in the previous year on 30 September 2000 and which have been approved for the retention of that teacher. Factors taken into account include developing school status, substantially increased numbers by September 2001 and schools with special needs requirements.
