Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when the coastal protection programme for Annagassan, County Louth, will commence; the way in which the £200,000 allocation will be applied; the work which will be completed as part of the £6.86 million as indicated in March 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources [192](Mr. Fahey): In March 2001, under the Coast Protection Programme for 2001, I approved £200,000 for phase 2 of the coast protection scheme at Annagassan, Co Louth. Louth County Council undertook this scheme directly. The county council has recently advised my Department that this scheme is now complete and the total expenditure on the scheme in 2001 is estimated to be in the region of £145,000. The bulk of this money was spent on 580 metres of 1.5 tonne rock armour revetment, 7,360 square metres of slope re-grading, 320 metres of cut-off drain, and 1,820 metres of herring bone drainage on slopes.
