516. Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science if he would consider providing a computer to an organisation (details supplied) in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16520/01]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): My Department's involvement in funding the equipment needs, including computer needs, of children with disabilities is confined to children participating in the primary or post-primary school system. Grant payments for the purchase of such equipment are based on the assessed needs of individual pupils.

The school to which the Deputy refers is a privately owned Montessori school. There are no funds provided at present to purchase equipment, including computer equipment, by such schools.
