Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

110. Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to an application for funding by an organisation (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16140/01]

Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources (Mr. Fahey): Primary responsibility for coastal protection lies with the property owner, whether that is a private individual or a local authority.

In April 2001, Donegal County Council submitted a proposal to my Department for funding for a stone revetment to protect the embankment at the location in question. The question of allocating funding for protection works at this location will be assessed in the context of the overall strategic coast protection priorities and available funding.
