299. Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will expedite an application for a medical card by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny in view of his medical circumstances. [13690/01]

Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Martin): The issue of determination of medical card eligibility is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board. Accordingly, I have referred the matter to the South-Eastern Health Board and asked that the case be investigated, and that the board reply directly to the Deputy.
