Dáil Éireann - Volume 533 - 27 March, 2001

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

279. Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a replacement garda was provided at a station (details supplied) in County Limerick following the retirement of a garda in March 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8930/01]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue): I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources and personnel to individual areas, that the current manpower strength of the Garda station in question as at 1 January 2001 is one garda, which the Garda authorities feel is adequate at the present time.

The allocation of personnel is reviewed on an ongoing basis, and when additional manpower next becomes available the needs of this station will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
