Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will outline overtime payment arrangements for his staff during the current foot and mouth crisis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8957/01] Mr. Walsh Mr. Walsh Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (Mr. Walsh): Standard Civil Service overtime arrangements are applied to staff in clerical and administrative grades who have conditioned hours. The rates are applied as follows: first three hours per week @ time+¼; next five hours per week @ time+½; hours in excess of eight per week @ double time; Saturday mornings @ time+½, if no overtime is worked in the preceding week; and Saturday p.m. @ double time. However, if overtime is worked in the preceding week double time is paid for all day Saturday; Sundays @ double time. Officers in technical and veterinary grades do not receive overtime but qualify for unsocial hours payments which are set out in the following tables. Unsocial Hours Rates for Veterinary Grades.
