Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of deaths each year for the past three years which occurred in Garda custody, in prison or in the work place; and his views on whether it is appropriate that mandatory inquests take place in all such cases. The Deputy will be aware that in accordance with Section 17 of the Coroners Act, 1962 a coroner must hold an inquest into such deaths.
