Dáil Éireann - Volume 529 - 06 February, 2001 Written Answers. - Taxi Regulations. Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) 190. Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans he has to extend the use of bus lanes to hackney drivers, particularly for cars used as part of the school transport scheme or servicing areas where no taxi service is available. [3124/01] Mr. Molloy Mr. Molloy Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Molloy): Full access to bus lanes is permitted at present only to omnibuses and large public service vehicles. Pedal cycles and taxis may use “with flow” bus lanes. Hackneys, as private hire vehicles, have not been permitted to use bus lanes given their more limited service role which does not involve publicly standing or plying for hire. There are no proposals at this time to extend further the use of bus lanes to hackneys. Dáil Éireann 529 Written Answers. Taxi Regulations. Questions 20010206
