Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science the starting incremental salary for primary and post primary teachers. [30146/00] Dr. Woods Dr. Woods Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): Permanent and temporary teachers are remunerated by reference to an incremental salary scale, which is applicable to both primary and second level teachers. The scale has 25 points. Teachers who complete a four year course, for example, H.Dip, commence on the third point of the scale. Teachers who complete a three year recognised training course normally commence on the second point of the incremental salary scale. In addition to the basic salary, qualification allowances are also payable to teachers. With effect from 1 October 2000 the starting salary of a teacher with a primary degree – honours – and a higher diploma in education – honours – is £20,606. Dáil Éireann 528 Written Answers.
