Written Answers. - Milk Quota Restructuring Scheme.

130. Mr. J. Brady asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the amount of milk transferred in the restructuring scheme in 2000; the way in which this compares to recent years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29102/00]

Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (Mr. Walsh): The allocation of quota under the milk quota restructuring scheme has now become the most important vehicle for the transfer of quota in Ireland. The 2000 scheme provided for the part restructuring of quotas for the first time. Producers who depended on temporary leasing together with producers who lost land and quota leases were given priority in the reallocation of quota surrendered under the scheme.

The quantity of quota restructured under the 2000 restructuring scheme was approximately 62.5 million gallons. The quantity of quota restructured, in effect, exceeded the total quantity restructured during the previous five years as illustrated by the following table:
