Written Answers. - Prison Committals.

351. Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a person (details supplied) is being considered for early release. [27215/00]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue): The prisoner referred to is serving two terms of seven years imprisonment [1572] for the possession of firearms in suspicious circumstances. He was convicted in the Special Criminal Court on 19 January 1996 and his current remission date is 16 February 2002.

I can confirm that he has recently applied for release under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement. This application is currently under consideration.
