Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a new formulation of paracetamol (details supplied) which incorporates methianine is now being marketed in the United Kingdom; if his Department and the Irish Medicines Board have examined this product; if he will make the use of methianine compulsory for manufacturing companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Martin): As the Deputy is aware, the Irish Medicines Board is the competent authority for the authorisation and control of medicinal products in this country. The Irish Medicines Board is aware of this product but, to date, has not received any application for authorisation to place it on the market.
