Dáil Éireann - Volume 524 - 25 October, 2000 Written Answers. - Disposal of Animal Carcases. Cecilia Keaveney Cecilia Keaveney 135. Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when the national scheme for the collection of fallen animals, which is relevant for the protection of the environment, animal health and food safety, will be put in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23380/00] Mr. Walsh Mr. Walsh Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (Mr. Walsh): I am committed to the introduction of a fallen animal collection and disposal scheme at the earliest possible date. This commitment has been included in the Government response to the 2010 report as set out in the Agri Food 2010 plan of action. In order to ensure that the policy best meets the environmental, animal health and food safety objectives envisaged, extensive consultation and examination of the measures is necessary. This process is ongoing and involves consultation with the Environmental Protection Agency as well as representatives of farmer organisations, the rendering industry, fallen animal collectors and others. Once this has been concluded, I would hope to be in a position to finalise the details of a scheme within the timescale referred to in the action plan. Dáil Éireann 524 Written Answers.
