226. Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo has been left for two years on the waiting list for a hip replacement at Merlin Park Hospital, County Galway. [18033/00]

Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Martin): The provision of medical treatment for eligible persons in County Galway is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position on this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
