200. Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the grants or assistance, if any, which are available where asbestos has to be removed from public buildings under EU regulations and where the disposal in this regard is quite costly. [17531/00]

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government (Mr. D. Wallace): The disposal of waste is subject to the provisions of the Waste Management Act, 1996, and regulations made thereunder. Grant assistance is not available in respect of the cost of disposal of asbestos waste.
