Dáil Éireann - Volume 521 - 13 June, 2000

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

302. Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the dissatisfaction among the board of management and staff at a school (details supplied) in County Dublin that remedial work and refurbishment promised for July 2000 has been postponed; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that staff are no longer prepared to work in conditions of leaking roofs, damp walls, sewer[310] age odours, mould growing indoors, peeling ceilings, flooded halls, bad ventilation, dirty unhygienic carpets, mice infestation and an appalling staffroom; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that members of staff fear for their health and the health of children and ancillary staff; if he will arrange for the necessary remedial work to be done without delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): My Department is currently processing an application from the management authorities of the school in question for grant-aid towards improvement works.

The board of management will be kept informed of developments.
