Written Answers - Decentralisation Programme.

98. Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the proposals he has for decentralisation of Departmental staff or bodies operating under the aegis of his Department; the proposed locations; the numbers involved; the consultation there will be with staff concerned and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13672/00]

Minister for Defence (Mr. M. Smith): The Deputy will be aware that the finance branch of my Department was decentralised to Galway in 1989. In the context of the White Paper on Defence, the Government decided to decentralise the Civil Defence branch of my Department to Roscrea, County Tipperary. The total number of posts in the Civil Defence branch is approximately 32.

It has also been decided that two sections of Defence Forces headquarters, namely the directorate of training and the directorate of reserve forces, comprising approximately 30 personnel, will be relocated from Dublin to Kickham Barracks, Clonmel, County Tipperary.

Staff unions and associations have been informed of these decisions and detailed discussions will take place with the unions and associations as necessary.
