Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons, if any, for the delay in providing a heart operation for a person (details supplied) in County Laois; if he will have investigations made into the delay in view of the circumstances of the case and the urgent need for the operation; if he will make a statement on the waiting list; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Martin): The responsibility for the provision of services at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority in the first instance. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him as a matter of urgency.

Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons, if any, for the delay in a heart operation for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; if he will expedite the case in view of the serious condition of this person and the long delay he has already experienced; and the reason this person has been seen by a number of doctors over a period of a number of visits to the hospital. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the position regarding this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
