262. Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the quantity of plastics (details supplied) recycled in the past five years. [26119/99]

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government (Mr. D. Wallace): While annual figures are not available, the national waste database indicates that 648 tonnes of plastic waste arising in the municipal and non-hazardous industrial waste streams were recycled in 1995. It is understood that the Environmental Protection Agency will shortly publish an updated national waste database containing equivalent data for 1998.
