154. Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will fund the provision of training by Women's Aid to staff hospital accident and emergency departments to identify and properly deal with women who require medical care as a result of violence and abuse. [23030/99]

Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Cowen): Women's Aid have recently been in touch with officials of my Department in relation to the proposal referred to by the Deputy. The matter is currently under examination and a final decision will be made in the context of funding available to me next year for the provision of services for the women victims of violence.
