276. Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the position on the framework document in relation to the REP scheme for persons who have commonage; and if these persons can enter this scheme. [17526/99]

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh): In advance of release of commonage framework plans, interim framework plans are in place to enable farmers with commonage land, which meets the criteria for eligibility, to join the REP scheme. Commonage framework plans for approximately 40,000 hectares of commonage will be approved and available shortly. It is expected that additional commonage framework plans will be available by the end of 1999.
