Written Answers. - Port Tunnel.

245. Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will receive the report from the inspectors on the port tunnel; when he will publish the report; the opportunity, if any, he will give for comment on the report before he takes his decision; if he will ensure that sufficient time is made available for study of the report before the period within which appeals against his decision must be lodged; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11641/99]

Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): The public local inquiry into all matters relating to the Dublin port tunnel motorway scheme, 1998 concluded on 27 April 1999. The nominated inspectors are currently preparing their report which they will submit to me in due course.

The statutory procedures governing the determination of this motorway scheme provided good opportunity for interested parties to make their views known. There was a lengthy period during which interested parties could make written submissions and participants at the public local inquiry into this scheme were given an opportunity to make an oral submission. The period for making submissions has ended with the closure of the inquiry.

[399] The matters raised at the public inquiry will be addressed in the inspectors' report, and will be considered by me, together with the environmental impact statement and the written submissions, before making my decision in this matter. In accordance with practice now established for my Department and An Bord Pleanála, the report will be made available, on request, immediately following the determination of this case.
