Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science when his Department will stop the encroachment of the catchment area of St. Mary's College, Ballygar, County Galway, at Dysart and Creggs; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a substantial number of students are attracted away from the college as a result of this encroachment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin): My Department is not aware of an encroachment into the Ballygar catchment area at Creggs. Eligible pupils from the Creggs area currently avail of catchment boundary transport to an adjoining post-primary centre under the terms of the post-primary school transport scheme.

The encroachment at Dysart is currently being re-examined by my Department. The Deputy will be informed of the position as soon as this review has been concluded.
