My Department has not, to date, appointed any firms to oversee the sale of the six barracks designated for disposal under a Government decision taken on 15 July 1998.

A tender competition was recently conducted to appoint independent consultants to draw up an integrated action area plan for the future development of lands at the former military barracks in Ballincollig, County Cork. That competition was widely advertised and was open to all firms with the necessary expertise. The tenders received are currently being evaluated and it is intended to have consultants appointed in the near future.

Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Defence if he has satisfied himself with the transfer of the personnel from Magee Barracks, Kildare, to the Curragh Camp; and if he has further satisfied himself with the conditions the personnel now [367] have to accustom themselves to at the Curragh. Smith): I am satisfied with the general situation of the personnel involved and I have been advised by the military authorities that their transfer from Magee Barracks, Kildare to the Curragh has been implemented successfully. I am further advised that the standard of accommodation, catering, training and office facilities at their new location is of a satisfactory standard.
