Written Answers. - Bomb Victims.

153. Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the compensation, if any, paid in respect of victims of the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings which resulted in the death of 33 people and 250 being injured; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4487/99]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue): I am informed by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal that the records maintained by the tribunal are not kept in a way which would make the information sought readily available, and that it could only be accurately compiled by the allocation of a disproportionate amount of staff time and resources. However, the records indicate that compensation of the order of £715,000 was paid out in respect of applications received relating to persons known to have been victims of these bombings.
