319. Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the crime statistics for each of the counties Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2676/99]

Minister for Justice, Equality, and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue): I am informed by the Garda authorities that crime statistics are compiled on the basis of Garda operational areas, which do not always coincide with county boundaries. For this reason, I hope the Deputy will appreciate, it is not possible to give separate figures for counties Sligo and Leitrim.

The crime statistics for the Garda divisions of Donegal and Sligo-Leitrim for the year 1998 are set out below. These statistics may be subject to minor change as the investigation of crimes progresses.
