Written Answers - Security of Tenure.

307. Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will publish the working group report on security of tenure which has been with his Department since 1996 in view of huge difficulties being experienced by tenants in private rented accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3071/99]

322. Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the working group established in 1994 to inquire into the reform of the landlord and tenant legislation has completed its work; if it has made an interim report; if so, if he will make arrangements for the publication of the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2679/99]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue): I propose to take Questions Nos. 307 and 322 together.

The Report of the Working Group on Security of Tenure was forwarded to my predecessor in July 1996. It was not published at that time.

I understand that at a recent conference organised by Threshold entitled “Private Rented Housing – Options for the Future”, the report of the working group was referred to and it was suggested that it would be helpful if the report was published.

I am giving positive consideration to the matter and I will be in touch with the Deputies in the near future when I have made my decision.
