Written Answers - Pension Provisions.
Mr. Ring Mr. Ring
276. Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is receiving full pension entitlements particularly in view of the re-assessment of his means in early December 1998. [2548/99]
Mr. D. Ahern Mr. D. Ahern
Minister for Social Community and Family Affairs (Mr. D. Ahern): The person concerned has been receiving old age non-contributory pension at the rate of £18.50 a week, on the basis of means of £59.38 deriving from his British retirement pension. Following the most recent review of his means in December 1998 he has been assessed with means of £76 a week from his British retirement pension. He is, therefore, now entitled to pension at the minimum rate of £2.50 a week. He remains entitled, in addition, to a living alone allowance of £6 a week, and a fuel allowance of £5 a week during the winter heating season. He is also in receipt of free travel, free electricity allowance and free telephone rental allowance, and is entitled to a free television licence. He will be notified shortly of his revised entitlement and of his right of appeal to the independent Social Welfare Appeals Office, if he is not satisfied with the decision in his case.
