Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will favourably consider the request for a new co-ed amalgamated school in view of the submission to his Department by the boards of management of Ladywell boys' national school, and the girls' national school, Thomastown, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a proposal for a new amalgamated co-educational school for Thomastown, County Kilkenny; the position regarding the construction of this new school; if the necessary finance will be included in the 1999 Estimates; and if he will make a statement on the matter. An application from the boards of management, for an amalgamation of the two primary schools in Thomastown, County Kilkenny, has been received in my Department. A detailed examination of the application is being carried out at present. I have asked that the matter be expedited and brought to an early conclusion. My Department will be in contact with the boards of management as soon as possible.
