970. Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the progress in introducing legislation to provide for greater representation of teachers and parents on vocational education committees; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1545/99]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin): The Government's legislative programme includes a Bill to amend the Vocational Education Acts. This Bill will include provision for representation on vocational education committees of teachers and parents. Proposals for submission to Government are currently being drafted in my Department and consultations are under way with interested parties. It is my intention to publish the Bill in mid 1999.
