Dáil Éireann - Volume 497 - 25 November, 1998

Written Answers - Special Educational Needs.

191. Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare will receive a radio transmitter and receiver to assist with her class studies as promised in his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 496 of 2 December 1997. [25070/98]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin): I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers.

I understand that the original proposal to allocate a radio transmitter to the child in question did not proceed because the visiting teacher dealing with the child was anxious to conduct a further review of the child's educational progress.

However, I am informed that the question of allocating this equipment is now under active consideration and I have asked that the matter be dealt with as speedily as possible. I regret the delay which has been experienced in this matter.
