519. Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will give a progress report on Belcarra sewerage scheme, Castlebar, County Mayo; and if he will approve the preliminary proposal. [21803/98]

Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): I refer to the reply [1716] to Question No. 288 of 13 October 1998. The position is unchanged.

521. Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when funding will be provided for an extension of the Monaghan town urban sewerage scheme to include Lathlurcan on the Castleblayney road; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21805/98]

Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): A preliminary report for the Monaghan town main drainage collection system, which includes a connection to Lathlurcan, has been submitted to my Department. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve this proposal.

522. Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will respond favourably to an application from Fingal County Council for funding under the second round of the serviced land initiative for the groundwater development at Bog of the Ring, County Dublin. [21880/98]

523. Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will report on the application from Fingal County Council for funding under the second round of the serviced land initiative for the Swords trunk watermain augmentation scheme which is vital to enable the future development of Swords, County Dublin. [21881/98]

524. Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will respond favourably to the application submitted from Fingal County Council under the serviced land initiative scheme for the long overdue drainage scheme in Rolestown, County Dublin, in view of the recent proposals to rezone additional land at Rolestown and other villages throughout Fingal. [21882/98]

525. Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will respond favourably to the application from Fingal County Council for funding under the second round of serviced land initiative for the proposed drainage scheme for Balgriffin, County Dublin. [21883/98]

Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): I propose to take Questions Nos. 522, 523, 524 and 525 together.

Last week, I approved 85 schemes under the second tranche of funding of £24 million for the serviced land initiative which will provide water and sewerage services enabling the provision of an additional 55,700 housing sites nationally. Included in these approvals were Fingal County Council's applications for the Bog of the Ring groundwater development, Swords trunk watermain augmentation and the Balgriffin-Limekiln [1717] sewerage schemes. The council's application for the Rolestown sewerage scheme was not approved as the estimated cost per housing unit under this scheme of £6,800 was deemed excessive compared to the average cost per housing unit for the 85 approved schemes of about £1,100.
