Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the communication, if any, he has received from local authorities regarding the number of compensation claims paid in the past 12 months; his views on the fact that the possible increases in the number of claims could affect the viability of the local authorities concerned and thereby create the need for extra subvention from his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): I presume the Deputy is referring to public liability compensation claims. Such claims are a matter for each individual local authority and one in which I have no function. As such, I received no communication along the lines referred to by the Deputy.
