Written Answers - Relationship and Sexuality Education.

47. Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools implementing the relationship and sexuality education programme in schools; if he has satisfied himself at the rate of implementation of the programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20658/98]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin): Information on the number of schools implementing relationships and sexuality education is being collected. A questionnaire for this purpose has issued to schools within the past week.

[1332] I am satisfied that the necessary supports have been put in place to assist schools with the introduction of relationships and sexuality education. I recognise that schools are at different stages in implementing a programme. The information on progress being collected will provide information on the rate of implementation and will enable effective targeting of existing supports.
