Written Answers. - Services for the Elderly.

267. Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself with the basis on which meals on wheels are supported, that is, 65p per meal, at a time when it is becoming more and more difficult to provide volunteers for this work; and if he will consider more comprehensive contract agreements with providers to allow these services to be coherently planned and delivered. [19659/98]

Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children (Dr. Moffatt): I recognise the importance of the meals on wheels service as an integral part of support provided for dependent people in the community. The need to develop this service is accepted and is being considered in the context of the availability of resources.
