279. Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Defence when a final outstanding payment for furniture supplies will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan. [18400/98]

Minister for Defence (Mr. Smith): The person referred to was a sub-contractor to the main contractor engaged by my Department to carry out a building project at Castleblayney Military Post. My Department has no contractual liability to that sub-contractor. It is understood that certain legal proceedings for recovery of amounts due by the main contractor were instituted by the sub-contractor.
