166. Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason an application by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo under the 1997 weather related crop losses scheme was not successful in view of the losses sustained by this person. [14325/98]

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh): The application of the person referred to for compensation under the scheme of assistance for weather related crop losses (1997) did not satisfy the general qualifying conditions of the scheme as his forage area exceeded 50 hectares.
