133. Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of children in pre-school child care schemes funded by his Department; the number of schemes involved; the total cost of the programme; and the number of staff involved in each of the past five years. [13483/98]

Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children (Mr. Fahey): There are no child care schemes funded by my Department. However, health boards grant aid a wide range of community pre-schools and purchase pre-school services from a variety of private pre-school providers in their functional area. Health boards do not employ any of the staff involved and the most up to date information on the number of pre-school places being provided is as follows:
