Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Cowen) Brian Cowen
Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Cowen): As the Deputy will be aware, funding for services for persons with a mental handicap in County Mayo is the responsibility of the Western Health Board.
Additional funding of £742,000 was allocated to the board for the development of new residential and day services in 1998. It is a matter for the board, in consultation with the regional co-ordinating committee, to identify priority needs within the region and to co-ordinate the development and delivery of services, including decisions relating to the individual who will benefit from those services.
