89. Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science when approval will issue to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 14 in relation to its application for grant assistance for refurbishment and extension to the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10234/98]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin): The board of management of the school referred to by the Deputy has applied for grant-aid towards major refurbishment of the older section of the school and the provision of additional classroom and ancillary accommodation.

At a recent meeting with my officials, representatives of the board outlined the future accommodation needs of the school and supplied enrolment data in support of the application. It was agreed that the planning section of my Department would, as a first step, carry out an urgent examination of the school's future accommodation requirements and this is now taking place. As soon as the examination is completed, my Department will contact the management authorities to progress the matter further.
