125. Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Defence if he will continue the process of continuous recruitment in 1998 to the Defence Forces; the number of recruits which will be required; and the numbers to be recruited in 1998. [9053/98]

Minister for Defence (Mr. M. Smith): I propose to maintain a policy of continuous recruitment to the Permanent Defence Force. A campaign to recruit 500 general service personnel during 1998 is in progress.
