Written Answers. - House Prices.

535. Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his views on the reintroduction of price control in the housing market; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9494/98]

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Molloy): Administrative control on house prices was attempted in the past in relation to new houses but proved largely ineffective. While I have no proposals to re-introduce house price control, a range of measures to address the issue of house prices will be announced shortly.
