Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the provision for the inspection and maintenance of good standards in private nursing homes; the number of staff assigned to these duties in each health board; and the number of actions taken in each of the past three years for failure to comply with standards.  Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children (Dr. Moffatt): The Nursing Homes (Care and Welfare) Regulations, introduced under section 6 of the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990, sets out the standards with which nursing homes must comply to be registered by a health board, as well as the procedures for the inspection of nursing homes by officers of the health boards. Article 24 of the regulations provides for the inspection of a nursing home to be made by designated officers not less than once in every period of six months.
