Written Answers. - Acute Hospital Accommodation.
Ms Shortall Ms Shortall
471. Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of patients reckoned to be inappropriately placed in acute hospital beds in each health board area. [9436/98]
Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Cowen) Brian Cowen
Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Cowen): The question of whether patients are appropriately occupying acute hospital beds is a matter of clinical judgment and individual patient circumstances. My Department does not routinely collect national data on this matter, therefore, I have asked the health boards and voluntary hospitals in all health board areas to assess the situation in their organisations and I will communicate with the Deputy as soon as the information is available.
