Lenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the percentage of planning applications for the retention of unauthorised developments which are refused in each local authority area; and if statistics are maintained to monitor the planning system. [3472/98] Mr. Gormley Mr. Gormley 115. Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of applications for telecommunication masts that have been granted planning permission, by each local authority area. [3640/98] Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey) Noel Dempsey Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey): I propose to take Questions Nos. 111 and 115 together. Comprehensive statistics on the operation of the planning system are published annually by my Department and are available in the Oireachtas Library. Summary statistics are similarly published on a quarterly basis. The statistics are not compiled on a basis that distinguishes between applications for permission to carry out development. While the statistics set out the number of planning applications by area and class of development, they do not identify the number of applications for telecommunication masts. However, in reviewing the scope and content of the planning statistics now collected, my Department will consider seeking the type of statistics referred to in the questions.
