Written Answers. - Psychiatric Care.
Mr. Creed Mr. Creed
123. Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will make arrangements to investigate the circumstances surrounding the detention of a person (details supplied); if he is satisfied that the conditions are appropriate for this juvenile; if the person has been assessed by psychiatric service; and, if so, if the prison psychiatric service is satisfied that the offender is being detained in surroundings suitable to his age and medical condition. [2753/98]
Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue) John O'Donoghue
Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue): I am aware of the person to whom the Deputy refers, but it is long-standing practice not to comment in detail on the case of an individual prisoner and I do not propose to make an exception to that practice in this instance. I can assure the Deputy, however, that the person concerned remains under the direct care of the psychiatric services in conditions which are appropriate to his medical needs.
