364. Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will make finances available for the completion of the extension to a school (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21957/97]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin): Stage 3 of architectural planning, developed sketch scheme, in respect of this school is being examined by the technical staff of my Department. When this examination has been completed and the submission approved, the school authorities will be instructed to proceed to stage 4, detailed design. The question of finance for construction will not arise until architectural planning has been completed. It is not possible to say when construction will commence.

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin): An application by the school in question to increase the size of the existing hall to the standard dimensions was not considered in 1997 due to lack of finance. However, the application has recently been resubmitted and my Department will be in contact with the school authorities as soon as possible regarding the outcome.
