Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will list the third level institutions that received grant aid towards the provision of student accommodation for each of the years from 1987 to date in 1997; the level of grant aid that applied in each individual case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin): As indicated in my reply of 12 November 1997, no grant aid is at present available for the provision of student accommodation in [766] third level institutions, nor has any such grant been made available in the period 1987 to date in 1997. However, the Department of Education and Science fully supports the self-financing mechanisms which have been and are being employed by institutions to provide such accommodation themselves.
